Foundational principles and tools of AHG to equip and partner with volunteers,
creating a culture for girls to walk in the authority of their calling in the Kingdom.

November 2021

Notification of Inactive Members

November 30 is the deadline to notify AHG, Inc. of girls who are currently on the active Girl Roster but are not participating in the current Program Year. These girls can be made inactive on the Troop's roster so the Troop's Program Support Fee is accurate when invoiced at the beginning of January. All girls that are currently on the Troops roster, will be included in the Troops invoice for the Program Support Fee. Please be aware that once the Troop has been invoiced, no changes can be made. In order to make girls inactive, notify your Hometown Mentor or Troop Coach, and they will make the change within AHGconnect.

If you need any assistance with completing registration for girls or adults participating in the Troop that are still pending or missing from the Troop’s roster, notify your Hometown Mentor or Troop Coach for assistance.

AHG Pen Pal Program

The American Heritage Girls Pen Pal Program is a unique and fun opportunity for girls to make friends from Troops across the nation! All Program Levels can participate and each girl will receive a pen pal from a different state at the same Program Level. Participants will also receive a 2022 Pen Pal Patch from their Troop Coordinators to place on the back of their vest or sash.

Citizenship

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” Romans 13:1, NKJV

The AHG Program provides girls with a deeper understanding of their country and heritage. Girls will learn about God's call for them to be good citizens by sharing His truth, servicing others, and honoring those in leadership. Being patriotic differs from citizen to citizen, but should always include love, honor, and respect for your country and those in authority.

Adult Members will participate and lead in implementing this Citizenship Program Emphasis within the Troop. Leading may include teaching girls flag etiquette, serving with girls in the community, and praying for and honoring our community, state, and country’s leaders.

To equip you with implementing this Program Emphasis, AHGresource is furnished with tools such as A Christ-Centered Balanced and Progressive Program, and Program Emphases Overview. The 2020 AHG Girl Handbooks each provide a page of information which is a great way to begin the conversation on this topic with the girls. (TH/EX, Page 36; PI/PA, Page 42)

Flag Ceremony

One of the ways that AHG shows patriotism and implements the Citizenship Program Emphasis is through flag ceremonies. Troop meetings should be opened with prayer, reciting the AHG Oath and Creed, and a flag ceremony led by the girls. Being patriotic differs from citizen to citizen, but should always include love, honor, and respect for your country and those in authority. Each time the pledge of allegiance is recited, a commitment is being made to be a good citizen and uphold the rights, responsibilities, and privileges that come with citizenship. Respecting the flag and pledging allegiance does not mean a commitment is being made to individuals, but to an ideal that was founded in strong Biblical principles in order to give everyone, regardless of race, religion, or creed, an opportunity to live responsibly and reverently together.

Every Girl Member will learn basic flag etiquette from earning her Joining Award before participating in a flag ceremony as a flag bearer, color guard, or caller. The AHG Girl Handbooks provide step-by-step instructions on how to implement a flag ceremony (TH/EX, Pages 17-23; PI/PA, Pages 28-30).

“As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

1 Peter 2:4-5, NIV
